Some of the most well-known celebrities in the world become unrecognizable after slimming down. Here’s a look at some of the most dramatic celebrity weight loss transformations.

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy has always been open about her weight loss journey. In 2013, she opened up to Us Weekly about her fluctuating weight, saying at the time “I’ve been every size in the world.” She has even fallen victim to fad diets, revealed to People Magazine (via Women’s Health) during her stint on “Gilmore Girls,” that she lost 70 pounds four months by doing an all-liquid diet.  “I’d never do that again. I felt starved and crazy half the time,” she said. at the time. Then in 2015, McCarthy dropped 50 pounds by changing her mindset. “I truly stopped worrying about it,” she told Life & Style at the time. “I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.”

Ree Drummond

Ree Drummond looked completely transformed after dropping 38 pounds. The Food Network star detailed her weight loss story on TikTok from January to May 2021. “No gimmicks at all. I just cut calories, exercised more, lifted a lot of weights,” she said at the time. The “Pioneer Woman” star showed off her svelte frame and declared, “I look better but I feel so much better, and that’s what really counts.”

Bronson Pinchot

“Perfect Strangers” star Bronson Pinchot lost at least 60 pounds while under lockdown during the pandemic. The sitcom star exclusively told Page Six that his weight loss journey began in May 2020 when he glimpsed a photo of himself from the 2017 reboot of “Battle of the Network Stars” and was horrified. Six months later Pinchot had shed 60 pounds. He says that that the first thing he did was clear his kitchen of junk food and replenish it with loads of healthy fruits and vegetables. “The First Wives Club” star, who is now vegan, says he now fits into clothes that he wore when he was 26 years old.

Adele

Adele first appeared to be losing weight back in October 2019 when she was photographed at Drake’s birthday party. After, the paparazzi captured the “Send My Love” singer showing off her new figure while hanging out on the beach and taking a walk. The 32-year-old star seemed to be keeping a low profile, but then took to Instagram to show off her new figure in a Christmas Instagram post and flaunted even more progress with a pic on her birthday in May 2020. Adele’s celebrity friends went crazy for her new look, which she reportedly maintains with the Sirtfood diet and help from a personal trainer. Her weight loss came on the heels of her divorce from Simon Konecki in September 2019.

Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson had a massive mommy makeover after giving birth to daughter Birdie May. The 39-year-old singer revealed on Instagram she had lost 100 pounds in just six months after she and husband Eric Johnson welcomed their third child together. She shared that she was “so proud to feel” like herself again. Simpson credits her long-time trainer for helping her shed the pounds in such a short amount of time.

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais had a total body transformation back in 2011 and he’s been keeping it tight ever since. The 58-year-old comedian lost 22 pounds at the time without having to make any changes to his diet. Instead, “The Office” star slimmed down by exercising daily. He starts off every day by going on a run and finishing off his fitness routine with 20 minutes of weight training.

Ariel Winter

Ariel Winter first showed off her slimmed-down figure in September 2019 when she posed for a photo in a racy corset. The “Modern Family” star later revealed that her dramatic weight loss occurred after she switched antidepressants. “For years I had been on antidepressants that caused me to gain weight that I couldn’t lose no matter what I did,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “It was always frustrating for me because I wanted to be able to get fit and feel like the work I was doing was paying off, but it never felt that way. I had accepted it and moved on.” Since coming clean, the 22-year-old actress has continued to show off her waist in sexy Instagram posts. Now, Winter says she’s done losing weight and wants to gain muscle instead.

Mama June

Mama June was nearly unrecognizable after going from 460 pounds to a size 4 in February 2017. Her weight loss journey began in 2016 when she started to shed some serious pounds. She then tried to get her extra skin removed but was rejected by plastic surgeons because she still had not lost enough weight to complete the procedure. Nearly a year later, the 40-year-old reality star’s body hit a plateau and she couldn’t lose any more weight, so she underwent gastric sleeve and skin removal surgeries. She stayed incognito to hide her transformation from the public and debuted her new look in March 2017.

Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill decided to slim down and shocked fans when he appeared noticeably thinner in July 2016. The 36-year-old comedy star was known for his fluctuating weight, even after dropping 40 pounds in 2011 thanks to a personal trainer. But Hill was serious about his weight loss journey, losing it in 2016 and then slimming down even more in October 2017. Now, Hill is keeping the weight off and has turned to Jiu Jitsu to stay in shape.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne made a major transformation when she reportedly lost 70 pounds after years of struggling to lose weight. The “Fashion Police!” host started her fitness journey in 2009 with a weight loss program and stuck with it. “Becoming healthy doesn’t start with a diet,” Osbourne, 35, told ABC back in June 2013. “It starts with you mentally. For me it was about first realizing that I didn’t want to be the person I was anymore. Then the weight loss just came as a plus afterwards.” A year later, she flaunted her new figure in a bikini while vacationing in Australia.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star began vigorously working out and eating healthy after struggling to lose weight for several years. The hard work paid off and in April 2015, the 35-year-old “Revenge Body” star revealed she dropped a staggering 35 pounds. Kardashian continued to stay devoted to her fitness routine and frequently shares her workouts on social media. While pregnant with her daughter True she weighed over 200 pounds, but after giving birth she quickly got back into shape and lost 33 pounds in 2018.

Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi

Nicoe “Snooki” Polizzi stunned “Jersey Shore” fans back in 2013 when she appeared even smaller than she already was. The formerly curvaceous meatball lost 50 pounds by July 2013, just 11 months after giving birth to her son Lorenzo. At the time, the 32-year-old revealed she got serious about losing the baby weight and turned to consistent physical activity with a personal trainer. “I work out in the gym seven days a week. I go with my trainer five days a week, I have a treadmill downstairs or I do crunches,” she revealed at the time. “I try to do something at least once a day.” The 4’8″ reality TV star has maintained her fit frame ever since.

Shonda Rhimes

Shonda Rhimes looked like a new woman after losing 117 pounds in 2015. The “Scandal” creator managed to slim down by adding exercise into her daily routine as well as eating with portion control. Rhimes, 50, has been open about the fact that she decided to lose weight for health reasons and not for vanity. “I did not do it because I thought I would become beautiful like in the movies,” she said in 2017, two years after losing the weight. “I did it because I could not walk up a short flight up stairs without stopping to take a break and wiping sweat from my brow. I did it because my body was physically rebelling against the brain that had been ignoring it for so long.”

Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson has managed to stay fit after struggling to maintain a weight that she is happy with. The singer, who got pregnant at age 49, revealed she lost 70 pounds after giving birth.  The 53-year-old worked out with a personal trainer four times a week and  tries to eat a healthy diet without depriving herself of the food she loves. “I don’t eat meat anymore, just fish occasionally and veggies,” she told InStyle in 2018. “But I love catfish. I love a fried fish. But I’m also crazy about grilled fish. I love Snickers.” The pop star opened up about the pressures the music industry puts on women to stay thin and said that expectations are changing for the better. “I think it’s changed, thank God,” she had said. “People are more accepting of others. Which is the way it should’ve been from the jump.”

Drew Carey

Drew Carey decided to slim down after deciding that “It sucks being fat,” he told People. Carey, 61, lost a whopping 80 pounds with strict diet and exercise in 2010. He cut out carbs, snacks on fruits and veggies, and turns to egg whites or greek yogurt for breakfast. He also does about 45 minutes of cardio when he can. “I like being skinny,” Carey said at the time. “I was sick of being fat on the camera. Really, I just got sick of it. Once I started losing weight, again, like once I started dropping a couple pant sizes, then it was easy ’cause once you see the results, then you don’t wanna stop.”

Missy Elliott

In 2014, she revealed that she lost 30 pounds with the help of her personal trainer and eating healthy. After fluctuating for a bit, the rapper, 48, decided to get back into it. Elliott decided to cut out all sugary drinks and drank only water for four months straight. She showed off her slimmer frame in an Instagram post and shared that her next move was to try and cut out all junk food from her diet.

Jennifer Hudson

Jennifer Hudson made a major transformation when she joined Weight Watchers. Combined with exercise, Hudson, 38, lost 80 pounds in 2010. Being pregnant with her son inspired her to get in shape. “I wanted to set a good example for my son. Right after I had him, I began trying to change things,” she said in 2011. The star admitted that she used to deprive herself when she tried to lose weight but learned from Weight Watchers that it was all about moderation. “I didn’t eat pasta, fried food, red meat. I hadn’t had pizza in 10 years! Then, about two months after my son was born, I joined Weight Watchers and learned about balance … It’s about portions and balance,” she said.

Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt transformed his dad bod into a six-pack all for work. The 40-year-old actor slimmed down in 2012 for his role in “Zero Dark Thirty,” and then in 2014, he lost 80 pounds for his role in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and then put on 20 pounds of muscle in 2014. The star revealed that he had to gain weight for his role in “Parks and Rec” but when he hit 300 pounds, he was “impotent, fatigued, emotionally depressed.” That’s when he decided to make a change and head to the gym.

Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr looked like an entirely new woman after her major weight loss transformation. In the ’90s, the TV star reportedly weighed around 350 pounds. She underwent gastric bypass surgery in 1998, according to Women’s Health, which helped her lose 80 pounds. She then had a tummy tuck to remove her extra skin following the procedure. Barr, 67, would see her weight fluctuate for the following years after her surgery, but in 2014 she committed herself to getting healthy again with a diet and exercise. “I’m just doing the things you’re supposed to do … you know, moving more, and eating less,” she said at the time.

Rebel Wilson

2020 has been about the “year of health” for Rebel Wilson. Over the past few months, the 40-year-old actress has documented her weight-loss transformation on social media, showing off her shrinking figure in a variety of colorful ensembles, including a bright yellow sundress. Last month, Wilson modeled a green bikini poolside, which garnered plenty of attention — not to mention “fire” emojis — on Instagram. Wilson announced in June that 165 pounds was her target weight goal for the year.
